I wrote the book to test my ability to write something other than cases, papers, and articles on management. I had been experimenting with such writing during the COVID lockdown, with short pieces on a range of themes. I finally decided to organize my thoughts on just one theme – Tito.
Narrated in the beautiful setting of IIMA’s heritage campus, Tito is a collection of eighteen short stories about a companion dog that captured the hearts of campus residents and visitors with his unbounded zest for life. The colorful paintings that illustrate the stories capture the majesty of the Louis Kahn Plaza, the stark beauty of the red brick buildings, and the amazing variety of the flora and fauna that define the life on campus. Written in an easy-to-read style the fun filled stories are a wonderful way on initiating children to “All things bright and beautiful; All creatures great and small; All things wise and wonderful; The Lord God made them all.” The book will be particularly cherished by those who have stayed even for a few days on the heritage campus of IIMA and experienced its unique beauty captured by its red bricks, the green grass and trees and the multitude of birds and animals.
About the Author:
Samir Barua worked at IIM Ahmedabad as a faculty member and Director for more than 36 years. He has a deep and abiding interest in the natural world. He raised his son by reading aloud stories from books as well as narrating stories he would make up on the go. He wrote the Tito-stories essentially for his son, now grown up, to memorialize the fun filled ten years he and his family spent with Tito, the black Labrador who came into their lives on the insistence of his son. On reading the stories he wrote he felt that they would be of interest to all parents and their children, particularly if the excitement Tito generated with his antics are read out aloud!
Samir lives with his wife Alka in Ahmedabad. Alka has a medical degree in paediatrics and a doctorate in social science. She works as a consultant and researcher on women’s health and related matters. Their son, Dumpy (Sahil), co-founded the logistics company Delhivery. He lives in Goa with his black Labrador, Pepper.
